This fully funded PhD opportunity at University College London (UCL) invites applications for a research project in system dynamics modelling of services for children with complex health needs. The position is part of the NIHR/EPSRC-funded SPROCKET Hub, a multidisciplinary initiative focused on transforming service delivery for children and young people with complex health needs. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research community within the UCL Department of Mathematics and the Clinical Operational Research Unit (CORU), working closely with Professors Sonya Crowe, Christina Pagel, and Nici Zimmermann.

The project centers on developing and applying system dynamics simulation models to understand and improve transitions for children with complex health needs, specifically from hospital to home and during key educational transitions such as starting school or moving from primary to secondary education. The research will involve collaboration with stakeholders across healthcare, social care, education, and multiple academic disciplines, aiming to generate insights that can inform policy and practice in paediatric healthcare and service design.

UCL’s Mathematics Department is renowned for its research excellence, with over 97% of its outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. The department offers a supportive environment with frequent seminars, access to the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (LSGNT), and integration into the wider mathematical community. The studentship includes full tuition fees at the UK home rate for up to four years, a stipend aligned with UCL’s minimum rates, a research training allowance, and support for purchasing a laptop.
