About this position
Metabolism plays a central role in the ageing process and the development of age-related diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular conditions, and neurodegenerative disorders. While we know that metabolic dysfunction becomes increasingly prevalent with age, the precise mechanisms linking metabolic changes to ageing and disease remain poorly understood.
This PhD project aims to explore how metabolic pathways drive ageing and disease progression through advanced computational modelling and systems biology approaches. By integrating multi-omics data with dynamic models of metabolic networks, we will identify critical metabolic changes associated with ageing and determine how these alterations influence cellular behaviour and systemic health. The project will also focus on how interventions—such as exercise, dietary changes, or pharmacological treatments—might counteract these metabolic shifts to promote healthy ageing.
This interdisciplinary project provides an opportunity to work at the forefront of computational biology, collaborating closely with biologists, clinicians, and network scientists. You will develop and apply novel tools to uncover the metabolic foundations of ageing and contribute to the development of strategies to mitigate its impact.
Join us in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time: understanding and potentially altering the metabolic pathways that govern how we age.
