About this position

The University of Manitoba in Canada is recruiting six graduate students (MSc/PhD) to join research groups focused on inorganic materials, battery chemistry, and machine learning–driven materials discovery. The positions are available in the Laboratory for Electrochemically Functional Materials (C. Kuss Research Group) and the Functional Inorganic Materials Lab (A. Iyer Research Group). Research areas include experimental inorganic material design, machine learning for material prediction and discovery, development and testing of active battery materials, scaling of battery material synthesis, and advanced material characterization.

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, or a closely related field. Strong English language proficiency is required, and international students must have a minimum GPA of 3.75/4.5. Curiosity in materials sciences and prior laboratory research experience, such as undergraduate research projects or assistantships, are required. Prior research experience in materials chemistry is an asset but not mandatory.

Successful candidates will receive a guaranteed stipend for the full duration of the program, with additional graduate awards available. The program offers opportunities to attend international conferences, participate in graduate teaching assistantships, and work in a collaborative, international research environment. The research groups are at the forefront of materials science, focusing on the intersection of chemistry, engineering, and machine learning for innovative materials discovery and battery technology.

To apply, candidates should fill in the dedicated recruitment form linked in the announcement. For more information, applicants are encouraged to visit the research group websites. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in materials science, chemistry, and interdisciplinary research to advance their academic and professional careers at a leading Canadian institution.
