We are urgently seeking a highly motivated domestic student to undertake a PhD project titled: "AI for Early Detection of Neurodegenerative Disorders in the Elderly: An Exploratory Study." The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive scholarship package totaling $46,000 per annum (2024 rate) for four years.
Project Overview:
Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, cause progressive damage to the nervous system, leading to cognitive decline. By 2050, it is projected that approximately 135 million individuals worldwide will be affected. This project aims to leverage multidimensional data collected from in-home sensing systems to develop AI algorithms capable of identifying early signs of neurodegenerative disorders and related comorbidities in older adults.
Collaborative Partnerships:
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU): Through collaboration with OHSU's Oregon Center for Aging & Technology (ORCATECH), the student will have access to extensive real-world datasets. ORCATECH has been at the forefront of using unobtrusive activity-sensing technologies to monitor behaviours of individuals with dementia, providing objective behavioural markers that are invaluable for this research .
CSIRO's Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC): AEHRC brings extensive expertise in neuroimaging and AI-driven diagnostics. Their work focuses on developing tools to unlock information from brain images, assisting clinicians in diagnosing and treating neurodegenerative disorders .
Cogninet: As a collaborator, Cogninet contributes its specialised knowledge in AI applications for neurodegenerative diseases, offering insights into early detection, cognitive decline prediction, and brain imaging biomarker identification .
