About this position

The Granular Mechanics and Renewable Energy (GMRE) Lab at Texas Tech University is recruiting for one Postdoctoral Associate and one Ph.D. student position focused on data-driven granular mechanics and coastal geotechnics. Successful candidates will join Dr. Yimin Lu's research group, which is dedicated to advancing granular mechanics, rheology, coastal resilience, data-driven modeling, particle-fluid coupling, and hydro-thermo-chemo-mechanical coupled processes. The lab offers a collaborative environment with motivated graduate and undergraduate students.

The postdoctoral position requires a Ph.D. (or near completion) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with strong communication skills and proficiency in numerical modeling and/or data-driven techniques. Preferred expertise includes numerical methods (DEM, FEM, SPH, MPM, CFD, reaction modeling, and coupling) and artificial intelligence applications in science and engineering. The position is available immediately, with a flexible start date, and offers a competitive salary for a 12-month initial appointment, renewable based on performance and funding.

The Ph.D. position is open to candidates with a B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in Civil, Mechanical, Mining, Petroleum, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines. Applicants should demonstrate skills in programming (Python, MATLAB, C++, Linux), numerical simulation, data-driven modeling or machine learning, and experimental design for granular dynamics. The intended start date is Summer or Fall 2026.

To apply, candidates should email Dr. Yimin Lu ([email protected]) with a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, contacts of two references, and two representative publications for the postdoc position, or a brief cover letter, CV, and transcripts for the PhD position. The GMRE Lab at Texas Tech University provides an excellent opportunity for researchers interested in granular mechanics, coastal geotechnics, and advanced computational modeling.
