About this position

This PhD position at Leiden University is focused on the development of anticancer nanomedicines within the Faculty of Science and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR). The project is part of the NanoMed NL consortium, a collaborative effort among Dutch stakeholders to advance nanomedicine research, integrating fundamental science with the creation of novel therapies for cancer and gene therapies for metabolic disorders. The successful candidate will join the Barz lab, where they will develop polypept(o)ide-based nanomedicines aimed at improving current cancer therapies.

The research involves synthesizing functional amino acids, performing solid phase peptide synthesis, and polymerizing N-carboxyanhydrides to produce precision polymers. These polymers will serve as the foundation for constructing functional nanomedicines, with anticancer drugs covalently attached via disease-responsive bonds. The efficacy of these new systems will be evaluated and compared to conventional antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) within the consortium.
