Aalborg University is inviting applications for a fully-funded PhD position in Migration, Retirement, and Later-Life Integration, based at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Society and Politics. The position is part of the research project "Return or Belong? Retirement and Later-Life Integration among Non-Western Immigrants (RETIRE)", funded by the Inge Lehmann Programme of the Independent Research Fund Denmark and led by Associate Professor Jeevitha Yogachandiran Qvist.

The project investigates how retirement impacts the lives of older non-Western immigrants in Denmark, focusing on decisions about return migration and opportunities for social and political integration in later life. The research utilizes high-quality Danish administrative register data and survey data to analyze variations by socio-economic status. The PhD student will be involved in both core aspects of the project, including theory-driven statistical analyses of longitudinal data and contributing to international journal publications.

The position offers a collaborative environment within the Centre for Comparative Welfare Studies (CCWS), with opportunities for international research collaboration, including a planned three-month research stay at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). The PhD student will complete relevant coursework (30 ECTS credits), undertake 600 hours of teaching, and participate in research training and departmental activities.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant social science discipline (e.g., sociology, political science, economics), strong quantitative and statistical skills, and experience with data analysis or survey research. Prior experience with Danish register data is an advantage. Proficiency in English is required, and documentation of English proficiency must be provided if applicable. Knowledge of Danish or a related Nordic language is not required but is considered beneficial.

The position is fully funded for three years, including salary and tuition, under the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state (AC collective agreement).
