About this position

The SoftCPS Laboratory at the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP), part of the INESC TEC HumanISE Center, invites expressions of interest from highly motivated individuals for future PhD positions in the broad domain of Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems. The laboratory is renowned for its research at the intersection of embedded systems, advanced software technologies, and cyber-physical systems (CPS), focusing on the design of intelligent, connected, and dependable systems that power modern smart applications.

Research topics at SoftCPS include Edge AI, fog/edge/cloud computing, reliable software, autonomous systems, smart energy, smart infrastructure, and industrial automation. With over 25 years of experience, the team has contributed to numerous national and international R&D projects, published more than 200 scientific papers, and maintains strong ties with both academic and industry partners. The laboratory offers a collaborative and innovative environment, access to state-of-the-art tools and infrastructure, and supervision by experienced researchers with strong publication and innovation records.

Applicants should have or be close to completing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Informatics Engineering, or related fields. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills, a passion for embedded and cyber-physical systems, and fluency in English. Both fundamental and applied research interests are welcome.
