The Jan Ronse Institute for Company and Financial Law at KU Leuven, part of the Research Unit Economic Law, is offering a PhD position in the broad field of financial regulation. The Institute is renowned for its scientific research in company and financial law, and this opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in securities law, banking law, sustainable finance, digital finance, financial crime (such as market abuse or anti-money laundering regulation), listed companies, or any other topic related to financial regulation. The specific topic of the PhD will be determined in consultation with the supervisor, Prof. Dr. Veerle Colaert, allowing for a tailored research focus that aligns with both the candidate's interests and the Institute's expertise.

The successful candidate will conduct original scientific research, complete the doctoral program, and work towards obtaining a PhD. Additional responsibilities include limited teaching support, such as supervising master's theses and seminars, conducting tutorials, and leading study groups.

Applicants must possess a Master degree in Law or in Law and Economics, with at least one distinction, preferably more. Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, is essential. A solid understanding of commercial law is required, and knowledge of (European) financial regulation is recommended. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong research skills, a scientific writing style, independence, teamwork, initiative, and the ability to complete a PhD project.
