About this position
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is offering a fully funded PhD position in the field of neuroimmunology, focusing on autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). The successful candidate will join the Translational Neuroinflammation research group, led by Prof. Martin Weber, to investigate the immunological mechanisms underlying diseases such as anti-NMDAR encephalitis. The project centers on the role of antigen-presenting cells in CNS autoimmunity, utilizing a novel active immunization mouse model that closely mimics human disease. Research activities will include hands-on flow cytometry, animal and in vitro experiments, and the exploration of new therapeutic strategies targeting neuroinflammation and demyelination.
The position offers a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and the TRR 274 Checkpoints of Central Nervous System Recovery network. The PhD project bridges basic immunology, experimental neuroscience, and translational research, providing opportunities for scientific creativity and personal development. The candidate will be involved in planning and executing experiments, data analysis, co-supervision of interns and students, and preparation of scientific publications.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Medicine, or a related field, with a strong interest in neuroimmunology and disease-oriented research. Experience with murine disease models and molecular biology techniques is advantageous but not required. Proficiency in English, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are essential. The position is funded for three years (E13 TV-L), with the possibility of extension, and includes comprehensive support for scientific and personal growth.
