The Erasmus School of Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Strategy Economics, with a focus on strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship from an economics perspective. The research will be primarily empirical, utilizing modern micro-econometric methods and large-scale datasets, and will cover topics such as strategic (re)positioning of firms, R&D collaboration, startup acquisition, and wage setting. The successful candidate will be expected to produce at least three academic papers for submission to top journals.

Applicants should preferably hold an MPhil or Research Master’s degree in Economics or Econometrics, though candidates with an MSc or MA are also eligible if they complete additional graduate-level courses. Strong quantitative and analytical skills are essential, as is a high level of academic achievement. All applicants must submit valid GRE General Test scores, with a quantitative section score of at least 160. English proficiency is required, demonstrated by a TOEFL score of at least 100 or IELTS of at least 7.5, unless the candidate’s prior education was conducted in English. Two academic reference letters are required.

The position offers a competitive salary (€3,059–€3,881/month), 8% holiday pay, 8.3% year-end bonus, 41 days of paid leave, pension scheme, parental leave, daycare support, and additional benefits such as the 30%-ruling and dual career support for international candidates. The PhD track lasts 3 or 4 years depending on prior qualifications, with the start date set for 1 September 2026.
