Description
The Moini Lab at Princeton University, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is seeking Ph.D. candidates for Fall 2026. Research areas include Computational Fracture Mechanics of Brittle/Composite Materials, Architecture Materials by Design and Statistical Mechanics, and Robotics (Additive) Manufacturing (Control, Planning, Sensing). The lab offers interdisciplinary research opportunities in state-of-the-art materials and additive manufacturing laboratories.
Applicants should have backgrounds in civil, mechanical, or material science, or expertise in experimental, analytical, or computational methods. The Ph.D. program provides individualized tracks aligned with mechanics, materials, structures, and architecture. All admitted Ph.D. students receive financial support, including a first-year fellowship and consideration for prestigious Wu and Upton Fellowships. The program typically lasts five years and includes coursework, general examination, research proposal, and dissertation. Teaching experience is recommended as part of graduate education.
To apply, candidates must submit a CV (including publications, academic/professional backgrounds, and GPA) and an optional 1-page cover letter describing their research interest in the AM2 lab. The application deadline is December 30, 2025, for Fall 2026 enrollment. For more information, contact Prof. Reza Moini at [email protected]. The application portal and further details are available on the Princeton CEE graduate website.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in advanced research in computational mechanics, materials science, robotics, and interdisciplinary engineering topics. The program emphasizes close student-faculty interaction, a small student-faculty ratio, and a collaborative research environment.
Funding
All admitted Ph.D. students receive financial support in the form of a first-year fellowship. Students are automatically considered for Wu and Upton Fellowships. Funding covers tuition and stipend for the duration of the Ph.D. program (typically 5 years).
How to apply
Submit your application via the Princeton CEE graduate application portal by December 30, 2025. Email Prof. Reza Moini with your CV and an optional 1-page cover letter. Select your research interest area when applying.
Requirements
Applicants should have backgrounds in civil, mechanical, or material science, or expertise in experimental, analytical, or computational methods. A CV including list of publications, academic/professional backgrounds, and GPA is required. A 1-page cover letter describing research interest in the AM2 lab is optional. Demonstrated proficiency in relevant coursework and a minimum average grade of B (3.00) or better are required. GRE is optional/not required.
