Description
The Intelligent Sensing Laboratory (ISL) at Simon Fraser University, led by Professor Behraad Bahreyni, is recruiting for multiple research positions at the graduate (MSc, PhD) and postdoctoral levels. The lab is launching a collaborative project focused on developing high-performance MEMS-based gravimeters for field applications, integrating expertise in MEMS, microfabrication, sensor signal processing, and analog circuit design. The ISL offers comprehensive facilities for design, fabrication, and characterization, and collaborates with industrial partners for field deployment and domain expertise.
Openings include Research Engineer, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Graduate Student positions. Graduate applicants should have a strong academic record and interest in silicon microfabrication, MEMS analysis and design, sensor signal processing, and analog circuit design. PhD candidates are expected to have prior experience with micro/nano-device design, fabrication, and characterization, as well as a strong research track record. Postdoctoral applicants must demonstrate direct hands-on experience relevant to the project, with evidence of strong communication skills through publications and presentations.
All applicants must possess strong communication and analytical skills. The lab values diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups. Minimum requirements for graduate applicants include a GPA above 80% and proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL IBT 93 with minimum 20 in each category or IELTS 7.0 overall with minimum 6.5 in each section). Applicants should submit a CV, transcripts, a relevant publication (if available), and contact information for three references. The email subject line should follow the format: 'Student: MSc/PhD/PDF Jan/May/Sep YR AREA'.
Funding for graduate researchers is provided through research and teaching assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships. Additional opportunities include Graduate Fellowships, Entrance Scholarships, and NSERC post-graduate fellowships for eligible Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Top-up awards are available for students holding NSERC CGS or PGS awards. The ISL is internationally recognized for its research quality and experimental facilities, and Simon Fraser University is consistently ranked among Canada's top comprehensive universities, offering a collaborative environment and access to industry and applied research opportunities in Metro Vancouver.
For more information and to apply, visit the ISL opportunities page or contact Professor Bahreyni via the provided channels. Applications are reviewed carefully, and clear, direct statements of motivation and experience are encouraged.
Funding
Graduate researchers are funded through a combination of research and teaching assistantships and fellowships/scholarships.
