The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) School of Management and School of Life Sciences is offering a PhD Student / Junior Researcher position in Microeconomics and Applied Economics. This role is designed for candidates interested in conducting empirical research in areas such as natural resources and environment, digitalisation, AI and smart technologies in livestock sectors, climate change and policy, agricultural, food and environmental policy impact analysis, and production efficiency and food markets. The successful candidate will work towards an internationally competitive PhD degree, contributing to peer-reviewed publications and engaging in both nationally and internationally funded projects, including EU Horizon initiatives like Smart4Welfare and URSOILL. The position offers high-quality supervision from senior academic staff and opportunities for involvement in teaching, funding acquisition, and global outreach. International networking and collaborations are encouraged, with connections possible in regions such as South America, Asia, or Africa. The PhD process includes integration into TUM’s School of Life Sciences or School of Management and participation in graduate school training programs. Applicants should hold an excellent or very-good university degree in economics, business studies, agricultural sciences with an economics focus, or related disciplines. Strong analytical and methodological skills in quantitative data analysis (econometrics, statistics, machine learning), high motivation, independence, teamwork, and excellent English proficiency are required, along with a willingness to learn German. The position is salaried according to the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 2/3), with an initial 2-year appointment and the possibility of extension. Requirements
