The University of Gothenburg, Sahlgrenska Academy, is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD studentship in Medical Science with a focus on Viral Immunology, specifically the role of IgA in influenza A virus infection. The project, supervised by Professor Davide Angeletti, aims to investigate the mechanisms driving IgA class switching in the upper airways and the protective role of IgA against influenza A infection. Research will combine antibody engineering with mucosal immunology, utilizing methods such as molecular biology, cell culturing, influenza virus assays, multicolor flow cytometry, and in vivo work with laboratory animals.

The ideal candidate should have a strong experimental drive and interest in antibody engineering and mucosal immunology. Documented experience in immunology, flow cytometry, molecular biology, virology, or infection models is advantageous. Applicants must have completed a master’s degree or equivalent, with specific eligibility in English proficiency. The position is based at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Biomedicine, and requires physical presence in Sweden.

The doctoral studentship is fully funded, with salaries set individually according to local agreements. The program comprises four years of full-time study, with possible departmental duties up to 20%.
