Uppsala University is offering a postdoctoral researcher position in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for biomarker discovery, specifically focusing on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC, pancreatic cancer). The position is available in the laboratory of Professor Daniel Globisch at the Department of Chemistry – BMC. The Globisch laboratory is an international and multidisciplinary research group integrating chemical biology, bioorganic chemistry, and metabolomics for microbiome analysis and biomarker discovery.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment with access to advanced infrastructure and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, including the EU-network PANCAID. The main research focus is on quantitative and qualitative metabolomics analysis of human plasma and serum samples for biomarker discovery in pancreatic cancer and related diseases. The role involves biological sample preparation, UHPLC-MS/MS analysis, bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and biomarker validation in human cohorts. The candidate will also apply newly developed chemical biology methodologies to investigate microbiome metabolism and integrate metabolomics data with other datasets.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree and have documented laboratory experience in at least two of the following areas: metabolomics data analysis, mass spectrometric analysis of biological samples, biomarker discovery, and chemical biology. Strong collaborative skills, motivation, independence, and proficiency in English are required. Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory. The PhD should have been obtained within three years prior to the application deadline, with possible extensions for special circumstances.

The position is a full-time, temporary employment for 2 years, starting February 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.
