Örebro University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in sociology, focusing on the role of expertise in international environmental policy. The position is based at the Institutionen för humaniora, utbildnings- och samhällsvetenskap (HumUS), which is renowned for its interdisciplinary research and education across the humanities, education, and social sciences. The postdoctoral researcher will work within a project investigating how international scientific networks and intergovernmental expert panels influence global environmental policy. The research will center on the development of policy-relevant knowledge for global environmental challenges, with a particular emphasis on the institutional design and functioning of expert organizations. Empirical work will include interviews, document analysis, and participant observation to understand how these organizations synthesize complex multidisciplinary fields and present knowledge that is both scientifically credible and politically actionable.

The position offers close collaboration with the project leader and opportunities for co-authorship of scientific articles. The research group specializes in environmental sociology, with ongoing projects addressing work, family, close relationships, and the societal dimensions of environmental issues. The postdoctoral appointment is full-time for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Eligibility requires a doctoral degree in sociology or a closely related social science discipline, obtained within the last three years. Familiarity with environmental sociology and science and technology studies (STS), as well as experience working within research projects, are considered advantages.
