Description

CY Cergy Paris University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in contract law and information technology law, as part of the CY-Chain project. This 12-month, part-time role is based at the LEJEP Research Centre and focuses on the intersection of legal studies and digital innovation. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working on the development of software to transcribe contractual clauses onto a blockchain platform, as well as conducting forward-looking research in monetary law, particularly regarding central bank digital currencies and cryptocurrencies. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with legal scholars, economists, and IT specialists, under the supervision of Professor Patrick Barban, the project coordinator. Responsibilities include conducting advanced legal research on contract law, digital law, and crypto-assets, writing academic reports and articles, liaising with researchers from other disciplines, and assisting in the organisation of scientific events. The project values cross-disciplinary approaches and encourages candidates with additional skills in economics or computer science to apply. Applicants must have completed a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, with a thesis related to French contract law or digital law. Essential qualifications include strong legal research skills, the ability to conceptualise and synthesise complex issues, and excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial, as is a demonstrated capacity for academic writing and collaboration. To apply, candidates should email a cover letter, detailed CV, and a selection of their work to Professor Patrick Barban. The application deadline is 7 December 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, and applicants who do not receive a response by 10 December 2025 should consider their application unsuccessful. For more information about the project and the university, visit initiative.cyu.fr or cyu.fr . This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to innovative legal research at the intersection of law, technology, and economics, within a dynamic academic environment in France.
