About this position
The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Dynamic Topology to join the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). The position is embedded within the SigCom research group, led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, which specializes in wireless and satellite communications, networking, and the development of future 6G communication networks. The group’s research spans network security, information assurance, model-driven security, cloud computing, cryptography, satellite systems, vehicular networks, and ICT services and applications.
The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge projects focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence for highly dynamic satellite communication (SatCom) systems. The role involves developing innovative methods and data-driven AI tools, implementing open-source proof-of-concept software, and collaborating with an international, multidisciplinary team. Research activities are supported by state-of-the-art facilities and labs, including COMMLab, 6GSPACE Lab, HybridNetLab, QCILab, TelecomAILab, CSATLab, and advanced software simulators.
Key responsibilities include supporting ongoing AI/ML activities for wireless systems, attracting new funding for dynamic wireless communication networks, presenting research at international conferences and workshops, and participating in outreach events related to AI and SatCom. The research will address both theoretical and practical challenges, such as developing ML models and optimization algorithms for SatCom systems that can adapt to varying network sizes and configurations without retraining, and maintaining robustness to changes in node order and network topologies.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Telecommunications and Computer Science, demonstrate research excellence with a strong publication record, and possess expertise in wireless and satellite communications, AI/ML for dynamic networks (including Graph Neural Networks, Transfer Learning, Deep Reinforcement Learning, and Transformer-based models), and hands-on implementation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and programming skills in Python and Matlab are preferred. Experience with industrial collaborations or public-funded research projects is highly desirable. Fluency in English is required.
The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and inclusive research environment, with staff from over 90 countries and strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labor market. The position is a fixed-term contract for 24 months, full-time (40 hours/week), with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85176. The university is committed to equality and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
To apply, candidates should submit a CV detailing academic background, thesis summaries, publication list, transcripts, and a cover letter explaining motivation and alignment with the project. Applications must be submitted online through the University of Luxembourg HR system. Early application is encouraged, as applications are processed upon reception. For further information about the SigCom group, visit https://www.uni.lu/snt-en/research-groups/sigcom/.
