About this position

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist and project manager position in the ESA CCI Evaporation project, hosted by the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department BW20 - Omgeving. This two-year, full-time contract offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on land evaporation, a key process in the global water cycle that influences droughts, heatwaves, and climate change. The project aims to develop a reliable, long-term global dataset of land evaporation using advanced satellite remote sensing, European Earth observation data, and modern data-driven methods. The resulting data will support climate science, improve climate models, and inform water management and climate adaptation strategies.

The successful candidate will conduct research, manage and coordinate project activities, develop scientific tools, disseminate results through publications, conferences, and the project website, and help shape future research directions. The position is ideal for candidates with a PhD in Engineering, Climate, Hydrology, or Computer Sciences, strong skills in numerical modelling and Python programming, experience with large datasets, and excellent English communication abilities. Experience supervising PhD students is a plus.

Ghent University offers a competitive salary (PD1 to PD4 scale), extensive staff benefits including training opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers. The contract will begin in summer 2026. The university is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.

To apply, submit your application online before February 21, 2026, including your CV (with study results), cover letter, and degree transcript (with translation if necessary). For further information about the vacancy, contact Prof. Diego Miralles at [email protected]. Please note that applications must be submitted via the online system and not by email.
