Postdoctoral Researcher in High-Harmonic Metrology of Solids and Liquids (Ultrafast Spectroscopy, EUV, Physics)
The Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) in Amsterdam is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for its new Short Wavelength Light Sources for EUV Metrology group, led by Angana Mondal. This position focuses on developing cutting-edge ultrafast femtosecond-to-attosecond spectroscopy techniques in the EUV/soft-X-ray spectral range, utilizing a laboratory-based high-harmonic generation (HHG) setup. The research aims to advance HHG-based spectroscopic and interferometric methods to measure interface and layer properties in multilayer solids and liquids, design methods to actively tune the EUV spectrum based on interlayer geometry and composition, and investigate dynamical evolution at interfaces, bridging attosecond science with industrial applications in nanolithography.
The successful candidate will design and perform experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with researchers within ARCNL and the broader ultrafast science community. Responsibilities include publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences. The research environment at ARCNL is highly international and interdisciplinary, with strong connections to the semiconductor industry, particularly through its industrial partner ASML.
Applicants must have or be close to obtaining a PhD in ultrafast light-matter interaction, optics, or condensed matter physics. Essential experience includes high-harmonic generation in various materials, ultrafast lasers and optics, condensed matter physics, attosecond and femtosecond science, EUV and X-ray spectroscopy and interferometry, and vacuum instrumentation. Programming skills (Python, MATLAB) and strong English communication abilities are required. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with ML-based phase-retrieval algorithms and experience with facility-based experimental setups such as Free-electron lasers or Synchrotrons.
The position is a full-time, 2-year contract with a competitive salary (scale 10, CAO-OI) and comprehensive employment benefits. ARCNL provides support for foreign postdocs with housing and visa applications, and compensates transport and furnishing expenses. The institute is located at Amsterdam Science Park and offers a vibrant, inclusive, and diverse research environment.
To apply, candidates should submit their application online via the ARCNL website. For further information, contact Angana Mondal at [email protected]. Online screening may be part of the selection process. ARCNL encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds and is committed to diversity and inclusion in its hiring practices.
