Postdoctoral Research Associate in Electrochemistry, Advanced Materials, and Sustainability at Texas Tech University
The Institute for Sustainability and Circular Economy (ISCE) at Texas Tech University, in collaboration with the NSF-funded Engineering Research Center for Advancing Sustainable and Distributed Fertilizer Production (CASFER), is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. This position is ideal for candidates interested in the intersection of electrochemistry, advanced materials, and sustainability, with a focus on high-impact projects such as waste-to-energy conversion, hydrogen production from ammonia, nutrient recovery, PFAS sensing, battery materials, and water remediation.
The successful candidate will join Dr. Botte’s laboratories and work within CASFER’s collaborative research environment, gaining hands-on experience with both bench- and field-scale systems. Responsibilities include optimizing electrode architecture, materials selection, and operating parameters of electrolyzers, developing prototypes, and establishing accelerated testing protocols. The role also involves mentoring graduate students and contributing to the overall effectiveness of research projects.
Applicants must have a PhD in chemical engineering or a related field, with strong knowledge of analytical techniques such as IC, GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, ICP-OES, TGA, NMR, XRD, and BET. Preferred qualifications include experience in adsorption, electrolyzer design and scale-up, materials science, rapid prototyping, test rig assembly, fluid flow and multiscale physics modeling (COMSOL, ASPEN), CAD or SOLIDWORKS, FLUENT, finite element analysis, and experimental electrochemistry. A strong publication record and experience in preparing technical reports and proposals are also desired.
Texas Tech University is a Carnegie R1 institution located in Lubbock, Texas, with a diverse and vibrant research community. The position is fully funded, with salary and benefits provided according to university and NSF guidelines.
