PhD Scholarship in Comparative Property Law at KU Leuven

KU Leuven’s Institute for Property Law is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship in comparative property law. The successful candidate will conduct independent, high-quality doctoral research in private and public real estate law, with a strong comparative perspective. The position involves preparing national and international publications, engaging in the Institute’s ongoing research projects, and limited involvement in educational guidance such as seminars and tutorials. Applicants are expected to hold a Master of Laws degree with distinguished academic results and demonstrate a keen interest in comparative property law. The ability to work independently, contribute to research publications, and an excellent command of both Dutch and English are required. Candidates are encouraged to propose innovative PhD topics, with a brief explanation included in their application. The scholarship is full-time for one year, renewable up to four years, and offers supervision by experienced academics in property law, including Prof. Dr. Vincent Sagaert and Prof. Dr. Dorothy Gruyaert. The position provides opportunities for national and international research exposure and a supportive academic environment that fosters research excellence and personal development. KU Leuven is recognized as one of Europe’s top law faculties, making this an excellent opportunity for aspiring legal scholars interested in property law and comparative legal studies. Required application documents include a CV, motivation letter, list of marks (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and other diplomas), and optionally a short PhD topic proposal. Applications must be submitted online via KU Leuven’s application system by 19 March 2026, 23:59 CET. For academic enquiries, candidates may contact Prof. Dr. Vincent Sagaert or Prof. Dr. Dorothy Gruyaert via email. For technical support, contact [email protected]. For more information, visit the official job posting or connect with the announcer, Christiana Banja, a qualitative researcher at KU Leuven. This opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about property law, comparative law, and legal research, seeking to contribute to cutting-edge research in a vibrant academic setting.
