Postdoctoral Fellowships in Functional Genomics and Metabolic Disease at UC San Diego (Majithia Lab)
The Majithia Lab at the University of California San Diego is seeking NIH-funded postdoctoral fellows to join their research team focused on the genetic and functional biology of insulin resistance and metabolic disease. The lab integrates genetic, genomic, and clinical investigation to identify and therapeutically target the molecular drivers of insulin resistance, aiming to prevent diabetes and its complications. There are two main postdoctoral tracks available: Functional Genomics and In Vivo Functional Genomics.
The Functional Genomics Postdoc will work on CRISPR/perturbation screens, including single-cell approaches, using adipocyte and hepatocyte models and transcriptomics to uncover mechanisms regulating insulin sensitivity and metabolic pathways. The In Vivo Functional Genomics Postdoc will focus on mouse models, metabolic phenotyping, and in vivo perturbation/functional validation, integrating multi-omic data to understand gene function in metabolic disease.
Applicants should have a PhD (or MD/PhD) in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Systems Biology, Bioengineering, Physiology, or a related field. Essential skills include molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR screening, single-cell profiling, and expertise in metabolic cell biology. For in vivo positions, experience with mouse handling, in vivo procedures, and AAV-based gene delivery is required. A strong publication record and excellent communication and teamwork skills are expected. Preferred qualifications include experience with stem cell culture, massively parallel screening techniques (such as CROP-seq and Perturb-seq), human genetics/GWAS, and data analysis in R/Python.
The positions are funded by the NIH, offering a competitive salary and benefits typical for postdoctoral scholars at UC San Diego. The lab provides a collaborative environment with opportunities to work closely with both experimental and computational scientists. Research topics include functional genomics, CRISPR, single-cell transcriptomics, mouse models, and the study of adipocyte and hepatocyte biology in the context of metabolic disease.
To apply, candidates should send their CV and a brief statement of research interests to Dr. Amit Majithia at [email protected]. Applicants are encouraged to review the full job ad on the Majithia Lab website before applying. Direct messages are also accepted. For more information, visit
