Postdoctoral Researcher in Political Science (Crisis Management, EU/NATO) at Swedish Defence University

The Swedish Defence University (Försvarshögskolan) in Stockholm is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Political Science to join the research project 'Crisis Management and Total Defence: Public Administration, Governance, and Collaboration.' This interdisciplinary project focuses on the role of public administration in building civil and military defence in Europe, with research spanning local, regional, national, and international levels. The position is especially suited for candidates interested in studying the EU and/or NATO. Research at the university covers topics such as operational law, defence systems, war studies, leadership, military history, and political science. The political science research group analyzes security and insecurity creation, crisis prevention and management, and related ethical dilemmas, with a focus on Sweden, the Nordic countries, the EU, the US, Russia, and East Asia. The postdoc will contribute to the project by planning and conducting studies in collaboration with the project leader, publishing in international journals, and working closely with other researchers and international networks. Up to 20% of the position may involve teaching. The appointment is for two years, with a possible one-year extension depending on funding. The position is open to both Swedish and international applicants, and may require a security clearance. Applicants must hold a PhD in political science or a closely related field (e.g., sociology, international relations, public administration, war studies), awarded within three years prior to the deadline. Merits include documented research excellence, experience in independent and collaborative research, fluency in English and Swedish, and prior work on EU, NATO, crisis management, or civil/total defence.
