Postdoctoral Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence for Municipal Water and Sanitation Services (SMAIS_POSTDOC_1.4.25)
This postdoctoral fellowship at UNINOVA - Institute for the Development of New Technologies is part of the SMAIS project, which focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence to Municipal Water and Sanitation Services. The position is funded under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and aims to develop and implement advanced systems in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science for public administration, specifically targeting optimized water management in the Almada Municipality. The successful candidate will be responsible for requirements engineering, stakeholder needs assessment, data analysis, and the development of machine learning models to improve municipal water management. Additional duties include supporting end-user training and contributing to public and academic dissemination activities. The research will be conducted primarily at UNINOVA's facilities, with possible activities at the FCT/NOVA Campus and other necessary locations. Scientific guidance will be provided by Prof. José António Barata de Oliveira, with additional jury members Dr. Sanaz Nikghadam-Hojjati and Prof. Filipa Alexandra Moreira Ferrada. The fellowship offers a monthly stipend of €1,851, personal accident insurance, and reimbursement for voluntary social insurance. The grant is expected to last eight months, starting in May 2025 and ending by December 31, 2025, with possible renewal within project limits. Applicants must hold a PhD in Earth Sciences Engineering completed within the last three years and demonstrate expertise in data science, machine learning, remote sensing, IoT, and satellite image processing. At least three years of experience in Portuguese or European research projects is mandatory, with preference given to candidates with project management and conference organization experience. Fluency in English and Portuguese is required, and degrees obtained abroad must be recognized in Portugal.
