PhD Position in Soil Fauna Effects on Soil Organic Matter Stability

A four-year PhD student position is available at the Institute of Soil Biology and Biochemistry of the Biology Centre CAS, part of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, located in České Budějovice. The research focuses on the effects of soil fauna on the persistence and stability of soil organic matter, utilizing laboratory and field experiments in both the Czech Republic and Germany. The project employs advanced methods such as physical fractionation, isotope analysis, and DNA techniques to investigate soil organic matter dynamics. Applicants should have a master's degree in soil science or a closely related field, with prior experience in soil organic matter dynamics, stability, and/or soil fauna. Experience in biomarker extraction and gas-chromatographic analyses is considered an advantage. Essential skills include organizational ability, reliability, responsibility, fluency in English, and effective interpersonal and time management skills. The position offers a stimulating and motivating workplace within an international team, a friendly atmosphere, and challenging work that advances the frontiers of soil science. Benefits include an above-average PhD salary, five weeks of vacation, access to a canteen, and a social fund. The role is part-time. To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter and CV summarizing previous work experience and education to Mgr. Sára Kocar at [email protected]. For further information, applicants may contact the same email address. The opportunity is ideal for those interested in soil science, biogeochemistry, and environmental research, and offers the chance to work in a collaborative, international setting.
