The Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES) 2026/27 is a prestigious, fully funded scholarship program offered by the Hong Kong Government. It supports outstanding Hong Kong permanent residents to pursue undergraduate, taught master's, or research postgraduate (MPhil/PhD) studies at top-tier universities worldwide. The scheme is open to all academic fields, including science, engineering, business, economics, medicine, law, social sciences, arts, humanities, education, and technology. Since its inception, HKSES has enabled over 1,000 scholars to gain global exposure, academic excellence, and leadership development.
Applicants must be Hong Kong permanent residents with a strong academic record, leadership potential, and clear personal and professional goals. They must have applied to or received an offer from a reputable university outside Hong Kong for a full-time program. Part-time or distance-learning programs are not eligible. Required documents include academic transcripts, examination results, personal statement, study plan, proof of university application or admission, and recommendation letters.
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, including tuition fees, living allowance, travel costs, and additional allowances depending on the host country or program. Scholars join a strong alumni network and gain government recognition as part of Hong Kong’s official talent group. Past recipients have studied at world-leading institutions such as the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Harvard University, MIT, Stanford University, and the University of Toronto.
The application deadline for the 2026/27 cycle is December 31, 2025. Interested candidates should apply to eligible overseas programs, prepare the necessary documents, and submit their application via the official HKSES online portal. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview to assess academic merit, motivation, communication skills, and leadership potential. For more information, visit the official HKSES website.
