Postdoctoral Researcher – Irish ABO and Coagulation (iABC) Strategic Partnership

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) invites applications for three Postdoctoral Researcher positions as part of the prestigious Irish ABO and Coagulation (iABC) Strategic Partnership, co-funded by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) and Research Ireland. This innovative programme aims to define the biological mechanisms through which ABO blood group influences blood coagulation and thrombosis, addressing clinically important questions with significant implications for transfusion medicine practice. The iABC Strategic Partnership brings together leading haemostasis research groups at RCSI and blood transfusion medicine experts from IBTS. The research will utilize state-of-the-art laboratory methodologies spanning molecular and cellular biology, and will provide opportunities to engage with blood donors and patients at the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. The programme also seeks to provide novel insights into the relationship between ABO blood group, heavy menstrual bleeding, and iron deficiency in young women. Successful candidates will join the RCSI Irish Centre for Vascular Biology, directed by Professor James O’Donnell, a world-leading research team with over 20 years of experience and more than 230 publications in the field of blood coagulation. The role involves conducting a specified programme of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, disseminating research results, carrying out administrative work, and undertaking appropriate training and development. Applicants must have a primary degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related biological subject, and a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field. Experience with animal husbandry, transgenic mouse colonies, molecular biology techniques, protein biochemistry, vascular biology, haemostasis, and immunology is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research record, motivation, creativity, and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. The positions are full-time and temporary, with funding provided through an EU programme. The application deadline is 27 March 2026. For further details and to apply, visit the RCSI careers portal or the official position link.
