Postdoctoral Positions in Molecular Plant Sciences, AI, and Crop Genetics at Chinese Academy of Sciences

The research group led by Professor Ji Zhou at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences (CEMPS) in Shanghai is recruiting 5-6 postdoctoral researchers and 1-2 senior scientists. The group specializes in molecular plant sciences, crop genetics, plant phenotyping, artificial intelligence, and genetic breeding, with a strong track record in developing open-source tools such as SeedGerm, CropQuant-3D, AirMeasurer, AirSurf, CropSight, and OrchardQuant-3D. Research focuses on phenotypic analysis across scales from seed to grain, leveraging AI and advanced data science to drive innovation in crop yield, genetic gain, trait stability, and molecular marker discovery. The lab collaborates with leading global research teams and major breeding companies, and has contributed significantly to the field through high-impact publications and patented technologies. Applicants should have or be about to obtain a PhD in crop genetic breeding, seed science, plant phenomics, artificial intelligence, software engineering, applied mathematics, or related fields. Candidates must be under 35 years old, have received their PhD within the last 2 years, and demonstrate strong research motivation, teamwork, innovation, and English proficiency. Additional requirements include recent first-author publications in major journals, patents, or science awards. The lab offers a highly competitive salary, excellent research support, and full backing for applications to major funding programs such as the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, Shanghai “Super Postdoc” Programme, and CAS Special Research Grant. Outstanding candidates may also access international exchange and collaboration opportunities, including visits to the UK and Japan. To apply, candidates should combine their CV, cover letter, and supporting materials into a single PDF and email it to [email protected] or [email protected], specifying the position and their name in the subject line. The group manager will contact shortlisted candidates for interviews. The recruitment is open until all positions are filled. The laboratory is well-funded, offers a vibrant research environment, and welcomes applications from outstanding early-career PhD graduates and postdoctoral researchers worldwide.
