Black Shales & Orogenic Gold Deposits, PFAS Emissions from Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling

Stockholm University is offering two fully funded PhD positions: one in Geology (Black Shales & Orogenic Gold Deposits) and one in Environmental Science (PFAS Emissions from Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling). The Geology PhD, supervised by Dr Iain Pitcairn, focuses on the mobility of gold and critical elements during metamorphism in black shales, with field sites in Sweden and Norway. The Environmental Science PhD, supervised by Prof Jonathan Benskin and Prof Ian Cousins, investigates PFAS and hazardous fluorinated substances in lithium-ion battery recycling, using advanced analytical techniques to improve environmental safety. Both positions are full-time, fixed-term (4 years), and fully funded by Stockholm University and external research bodies. Applicants must hold a relevant Master’s degree, have a background in natural sciences, strong analytical and collaborative skills, and excellent English proficiency.
