PhD Position in Lipid Immunometabolism and Multi-Omics at University Medical Center Mainz

The University Medical Center Mainz is offering a fully funded PhD position in the field of lipid immunometabolism as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network (MSCA-DN) project UNLIMITED. This interdisciplinary doctoral training programme focuses on understanding how lipid metabolism shapes immune cell function and tissue microenvironments, with applications to diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity. The successful candidate will join Project #3, a joint initiative between the Clinical Lipidomics Unit (Laura Bindila Lab) and the Institute of Molecular Medicine (Luciana Berod Lab), to develop integrated 3D/4D lipidomics and multi-omics approaches for deep phenotyping of the cellular lipidome and tissue microenvironment in immunity. The UNLIMITED network brings together 15 European partner institutions, providing advanced training in multi-omics, lipidomics, immunometabolism, and related technologies. Doctoral candidates will benefit from interdisciplinary research and training, including scientific, technical, and transferable skills, and will have opportunities for collaboration across the consortium. The research will employ state-of-the-art methods such as mass spectrometry, molecular biology, and advanced bioinformatics to investigate the regulation of immune responses by lipid pathways. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., mass spectrometry, lipidomics, metabolism, molecular biology, biochemistry, multi-omics, immunology), must not already hold a doctoral degree, and must comply with the MSCA mobility rule (not have lived, worked, or studied in Germany for more than 12 months in the past 36 months). The position is open to candidates of any nationality. The funding covers a competitive salary, mobility allowance, and research/training costs for 36 months, in line with MSCA standards. To apply, candidates should prepare all required documents in English (application form, CV, cover letter, references, transcripts, and any additional certificates) as a single PDF file and submit it by email to [email protected] by 15 March 2026. More information, including detailed project descriptions and application forms, is available on the project website. For questions, contact Dr. Angel Anzani ([email protected]) or the project email. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated graduates interested in lipidomics, immunometabolism, and advanced multi-omics research to join a vibrant international network and contribute to cutting-edge biomedical science at the University Medical Center Mainz.
