Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics – AI, Labour Markets, and Structural Modelling

Örebro University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral researcher position in Economics, with a focus on empirical research into the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on productivity and labour markets. The position is based at the School of Business, within the dynamic "Economics and Statistics" (E&S) research environment, and specifically at the AI-Econ Lab. The successful candidate will join the interdisciplinary Swedish research cluster "AI, Structural Change and the Future of Work" (AISCAF), funded by the national WASP-HS program. The research will combine micro-level causal inference with structural economic modelling, leveraging novel and comprehensive micro-level data, including administrative registers and digital platform data. The AI-Econ Lab is an international and interdisciplinary hub, closely linked to Örebro University's major investments in AI, robotics, and cybersecurity, and collaborates with other leading Swedish universities and research centers. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the full research process: exploiting new data sources, designing and conducting quantitative analyses of AI's microeconomic effects using both structural and reduced-form methods, and writing or co-authoring manuscripts for high-quality scientific journals. The position does not include teaching obligations, allowing full focus on research. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in economics or a closely related field, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Required qualifications include strong programming skills in Python and at least one additional language (such as Julia or Matlab), experience with large datasets, and a background in labour economics or structural microeconometrics. Experience with administrative register data, digital platform data, and text-as-data methods is advantageous. Familiarity with Swedish or Nordic institutional settings is a merit. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. The position is full-time and fixed-term for two years, with a possible extension. Salary is based on qualifications and experience. The planned start is autumn 2026. Örebro University offers a collaborative and inclusive work environment, with a strong commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. To apply, submit your application online, including a cover letter, CV, three letters of reference, account of research qualifications, transcripts, and up to 10 relevant scientific publications (including a job market paper). Only documents in Swedish, English, Norwegian, or Danish will be reviewed. The application deadline is March 31, 2026.
