Fully Funded PhD Opportunities in Computational Modelling and Materials Science at University of Warwick

The HetSys Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Warwick is offering over 10 fully funded 4-year PhD opportunities in computational modelling, with a focus on materials science, quantum, atomistic, and continuum approaches. These positions are ideal for students passionate about using advanced simulations and computational tools to address real-world scientific and engineering challenges. The HetSys CDT fosters a supportive, inclusive, and interdisciplinary environment, welcoming applications from women and under-represented groups to bring fresh perspectives to the field. Students will benefit from state-of-the-art training in computational modelling, sustainable research software engineering, machine learning, and high-performance computing. The structured two-year training programme transitions smoothly into independent research, with close supervision and mentorship from leading academics in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering. The research themes span quantum simulations, atomistic modelling, continuum methods, materials characterisation, and the modelling of biological and biomedical systems. Funding includes full tuition fees (for UK and limited international students), a competitive UKRI stipend, research support, and generous travel funding for conferences and workshops. Applicants should have a strong background in a relevant discipline and a keen interest in interdisciplinary research. The HetSys CDT prepares graduates for diverse careers in academia and industry, including roles as researchers, data scientists, and software engineers. To apply, prospective students should review the available projects on the HetSys CDT website, prepare their academic documents, and submit an application via the University of Warwick portal. The application deadline for the October 2026 cohort is 1 October 2026. For more information or to arrange an informal meeting, contact the HetSys team.
