Leadership and organisational change

The University of the West of England, Bristol, is offering a fully funded PhD studentship in the College of Business and Law, hosted by the Bristol Leadership and Change Centre. This opportunity is aimed at candidates interested in critically exploring leadership and organisational change in complex and uncertain contexts, with a particular focus on healthy and inclusive workplaces. Potential research topics include leadership and organisational support for maternity leave and motherhood, inclusive entrepreneurship and social value creation in marginalised communities, and translating compassionate leadership into ethical action and workplace wellbeing. The studentship welcomes diverse methodological approaches, especially qualitative and creative methods such as participatory action research, organisational ethnography, and narrative interviews. Applicants benefit from a vibrant research environment, comprehensive support from the UWE Doctoral Academy, and access to professional development and research skills training. The studentship provides a tax-free stipend of £20,780 per annum and covers full tuition fees for both home and international students. Eligibility requires at least a 2:1 degree in a relevant discipline, preferably a Masters degree with a minimum average mark of 65%, and a recognised English language qualification (IELTS 7.0 or equivalent). The position is full-time and requires residency in the UK. The application deadline is 12 October 2025 for a January 2026 start. Applicants must submit an online application with a research proposal, academic documents, proof of English proficiency, and details of two referees. For informal discussions, contact Professor Richard Bolden or Dr Paweł Capik. Interviews will be held online in November 2025.
