PhD and Postdoc Positions in Interactive AI, Cognitive Science, and Psychology at Aalto University

Aalto University’s Department of Computer Science is seeking multiple full-time PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers to join the Aalto Engineering Psychology Group in Finland. The positions focus on interactive AI, user studies, cognitive modelling, and the application of psychological theories and methods to improve human–AI interaction. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, combining expertise in cognitive science, psychology, artificial intelligence, and data analysis. Applicants should have a strong background in cognitive science, psychology, AI, or related fields, with expertise in quantitative user studies, data analysis (R/Python), and a commitment to open science. The group values strong scientific writing, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams. The research will be based at the Otaniemi campus near Helsinki, offering excellent collaboration and mobility opportunities within Aalto University and with international partners. The positions are fully funded for four years, with a starting salary of 3,100 EUR per month, and include occupational health benefits and access to Finland’s comprehensive social security system. The annual workload is 1,612 hours, and the group supports travel for research visits and exchanges with world-class research groups globally. To apply, candidates must be eligible for PhD study at Aalto University and hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field. Required application materials include a CV, degree certificates and transcripts, contact details for referees or letters of recommendation, and a portfolio of research or engineering work. Applicants are also asked to submit a 2-3 minute video introducing themselves and explaining their motivation for joining the group. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. For more information, visit the group’s academic page or contact Assistant Professor Robin Welsch at [email protected].
