Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biostatistics, Causal Inference, and AI Systems
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), part of the Georg-August University, is seeking a full-time Research Associate/Postdoc to join the Department of Medical Statistics. The department, led by Professor Tim Friede, is renowned for its research and teaching in biostatistics, bioinformatics, and the analysis of clinical and genomic data. The successful candidate will work within the CAIMed consortium, a leading research center for artificial intelligence (AI) and causal methods in medicine, funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony and the VolkswagenStiftung.
Research areas include the development of novel statistical methods, evidence synthesis procedures based on causal inference, counterfactual methods, explainability, uncertainty quantification, and federated learning. The position involves implementing new methods in statistical software (preferably R), publishing results, presenting at scientific conferences, contributing to funding reports, co-supervising PhD students, and independently preparing research grant applications.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Biometry, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with a strong background in statistical methodology for causal inference and AI systems. Proven research experience in evidence synthesis, causal inference, or AI systems is required, along with excellent programming skills in R and/or Python and high proficiency in English. Proficiency in German and experience in grant writing are advantageous.
