About this position

PhD Scholarship Opportunity: Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Volatile & Polarising Times

Deakin University (Australia) is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship for research on gender-based violence (GBV), with a focus on youth engagement, digital storytelling, and social change. The project, supervised by Prof. Amanda Keddie in the Faculty of Arts & Education (School of Education), explores how young people (18–34) understand and respond to GBV in today's complex world. Research topics include online misogyny, masculinity, feminism, and social narratives, aiming to improve GBV prevention programs and policies.

The successful candidate will receive a tax-free stipend of $37,450 per year for 3 years, along with full research training, mentorship, and opportunities to collaborate with global partners such as OurWatch, Respect Victoria, Equimundo, and Beyond Equality. Applicants must be domestic students (Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents), meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements, and enrol full-time. A first-class Honours or a Master's degree with a strong research component is required.

To apply, send your CV, academic transcript, and a writing sample to Prof. Amanda Keddie. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit a full application. The deadline for applications is 1 May 2026. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in policy, education, and community programs related to gender-based violence.
