About this position


We are seeking two experienced and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) to work within the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in collaboration with the Liverpool Centre of Alcohol Research and the Liverpool University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. The successful applicants will have expertise in health data, data science, statistical modelling and/ or artificial intelligence. You will be based in Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed¿s Research Group, a multi-disciplinary team of clinical, data and discovery scientists working in the field of Medicine within the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology within the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The project will be co-supervised by Dr Paul Richardson (Consultant Hepatologist at LUHFT). You will also work collaboratively across the thriving data science community in Liverpool, which will include joint work with Professor Iain Buchan at CIPHA (Combined Intelligence for Population Health Action).

This project will focus on alcohol use disorder and the end-organ complications which can develop from this, in particular liver disease and brain injury. You will use national and local data assets to understand factors which predispose individuals to the development of alcohol use disorder and its organ complications, with a view to developing preventive strategies which can be considered for implementation in a community setting. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working with other data scientists, clinicians and nurses. There will also be an opportunity to work with scientists at the Imperial BRC.

You should have a PhD In mathematics, computer science, data science or other relevant areas (or other equivalent qualification).

Fixed term post available until 30 November 2027.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
