The Royal College of Art (RCA), a world-leading institution in art and design, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the AHRC-funded project 'Scoring Warnings (SW)'. This interdisciplinary project mobilises artistic practices to interrogate the instructional mode of address in disaster preparedness, examining the intersections between emergency communication and contemporary art to develop more inclusive and effective ways of communicating risk. The project is a collaboration between RCA, UCL’s Warning Research Centre, GNDR, UAL’s CRiSAP, and other partners, and aims to establish a critical framework by drawing connections between historical and contemporary images, texts, and sounds from both risk communication and contemporary art. Outputs will include exhibitions, workshops, interviews, academic publications, and a film, engaging diverse communities in dialogue about risk and resilience.

The successful candidate will work under the Principal Investigator, Dr Aura Satz, in the School of Arts & Humanities, contributing to the design, delivery, and dissemination of project activities while developing their own research interests aligned with the project themes. Responsibilities include conducting research, supporting workshops, developing project documentation, maintaining the project's digital and social media presence, and contributing to public and academic outputs.

Applicants should hold or be near completion of a PhD in a relevant field such as sound studies, film, contemporary art, communication/media, cultural studies, participatory practices, or disaster/risk studies, and demonstrate multidisciplinary interests, organisational skills, and experience with digital media.
