Funding details

This is a fully funded PhD position. The gross salary for the first year is €3,059 per month, rising to €3,881 in the fourth year, according to the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreements (CAO-NU, scale P). The position includes excellent employee benefits such as partially paid parental leave, flexible working hours, a December bonus of 8.3%, pension scheme, and access to campus sports facilities. International staff may be eligible for a tax exemption for the first five years.

What's required

Applicants must hold a MSc in a relevant field such as microbiology or molecular biology. Interest and some experience in sequencing approaches and bioinformatics are required. Experience with phage virology or working with the model nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is a plus. Candidates should be highly motivated, communicative, creative, able to work accurately, and able to critically reflect on results. Ability to work independently and within a team is expected. A very good command of written and oral English (C1 level) is required; sometimes an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in English is necessary.
