The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, offers a fully funded PhD position in AI-Driven Bug Intelligence within the Trustworthy Software Engineering (TruX) Research Group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). The group, led by Prof. Dr. Tegawendé F. Bissyandé, focuses on trustworthy, data-driven software engineering and AI-assisted development, with research spanning software security, software repair, and explainable software. The successful candidate will contribute to the Bug Report Intelligence for the Generative AI Era (BRIDGE) project, aiming to transform unstructured bug reports into actionable insights that connect to code, support diagnosis, and improve the speed and quality of fixes. Application areas include developer tooling, reliability, and AI-assisted software workflows, validated on real-world datasets from open-source and industry.
TruX's research agenda is highly interdisciplinary, covering FinTech, embedded systems, business and entertainment systems, and cybersecurity. The candidate will conduct cutting-edge research across software engineering and natural language processing (NLP) for software, publish at top venues, and contribute to open-source artifacts. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and evaluating prototypes that relate bug reports to code, collecting lightweight runtime evidence, and supporting developer-centered validation. Collaboration with international academics and industrial partners is encouraged to ensure impact and external validation. The candidate will also prepare project deliverables, present results at leading conferences and workshops, and mentor MSc/BSc students.
Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, or a closely related field. Strong programming skills, especially in Python, and familiarity with machine learning and/or software engineering workflows are required. Experience with Git and empirical evaluation is expected, while experience with data collection, annotation, or resource creation is a plus. Motivation to publish research results in leading international conferences and journals, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment are essential. Language requirements include at least B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis, with accepted certificates as per university guidelines.
