About this position

The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is offering a PhD position in Autonomous Driving Systems within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). The successful candidate will join the UBIX Research Group, led by Professor Raphaël Frank, and contribute to the European project AutHUMate. The research focuses on adaptive, human-centered interaction strategies for advanced driver assistance and automated driving systems, aiming to develop and evaluate driver-in-context models using multimodal data to assess readiness, trust, and system use.

Based at SnT, the doctoral researcher will support AI-based adaptive communication and training concepts, with validation in both simulator-based and real-world settings. The role involves close collaboration with academic and industrial partners, cross-work-package integration, and dissemination of results through scientific publications and project activities. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, with opportunities to engage in areas such as network security, information assurance, model-driven security, cloud computing, cryptography, satellite systems, vehicular networks, and ICT services.

Applicants must hold an MSc degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline. Experience in automated driving systems, vision language models, computer vision, robotics, machine learning, communication systems, and control systems is highly valued. Language proficiency at B2 level or higher is required for the thesis language. The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and international environment, with high-quality equipment, close ties to industry, and a unique urban campus. The yearly gross salary for PhD researchers is EUR 41976 (full time), and the contract is for 36 months.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV (including academic history, thesis summary, and publication list), contact details for at least two recommenders, a cover letter outlining motivation and fit, transcripts, and optionally a GitHub link to open-source projects. Applications must be submitted online via the HR system; email applications will not be considered. Early applications are encouraged as review is ongoing. The University promotes an inclusive culture and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
