About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in Robotics and Geometric Machine Learning. The project is situated within the third-cycle subject of Computer Science and focuses on developing advanced robot learning and control algorithms. These algorithms leverage differential geometry and physics-informed priors to enable data-efficient, safe robot motion generation and manipulation with strong guarantees.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment at KTH, a leading international technical university in Stockholm, Sweden. The position is supervised by Assistant Professor Noémie Jaquier and offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and mathematics. The research aims to advance the theoretical and practical aspects of robot control, with applications in safe and efficient robotic systems.

Eligibility and Requirements: Applicants must hold a second cycle degree (such as a master's degree) or have completed at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 at the second-cycle level, or possess equivalent qualifications. Proficiency in English equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate experience in control and/or machine learning, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python or C++. A background in differential geometry and experience with real robots are considered advantages. Personal qualities such as goal orientation, perseverance, independence, collaboration skills, and analytical ability are highly valued.

Funding and Employment: The position is full-time and offers a monthly salary according to KTH's doctoral student salary agreement. Employment is for up to four years, with the possibility of renewal, and includes employee benefits and a creative, supportive work environment. The doctoral student may also engage in teaching or administrative tasks up to 20% of their time.

Application Process: Applications must be submitted through KTH's recruitment system by April 15, 2026. Required documents include a CV, application letter (max 2 pages), copies of diplomas and grades, proof of language proficiency, and representative publications or technical reports. All documents not in English or Swedish must be accompanied by certified translations. Only complete applications received by the deadline will be considered.

KTH is committed to equality, diversity, and providing equal opportunities. The university offers excellent working conditions, attractive benefits, and a vibrant academic community. For further information, contact Assistant Professor Noémie Jaquier at [email protected].
