About this position

WORK: I am looking for a PhD student to work on reconstructing Himalayan precipitation change. The project is co-supervised by Walter Immerzeel and part of the EMBRACER consortium.

Precipitation in the Himalayan is a vital water resource for millions of people downstream, but at the same time a frequent cause of disasters. This project aims at reconstructing how ongoing warming impacts the Indian Summer Monsoon that regulates Himalayan precipitation patterns. You will do this by analysing lipid biomarkers and their isotopic composition in lake sediment records from the central Himalaya.

Have you completed a MSc degree in Earth Sciences and do you have experience or affinity with working in a (wet chemistry) laboratory, programming, AND carrying out fieldwork in high elevation, mountainous terrain? Then this may be your project! Bonus points if you also like (to bake) cake.
