About this position

The Researching Engineering, Design and Educational Systems (REDES) team at Cornell University’s Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Systems Engineering Program is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in Engineering Education Research. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with Professor Alexandra Coso Strong and a collaborative group of discipline-based education researchers across the Cornell campus. The REDES team focuses on projects that examine and transform the interconnections, structures, and transition points critical to creating effective learning and work systems within engineering. The postdoctoral scholar will investigate how institutions build capacity—human, organizational, and infrastructure—to conduct research and support workforce development.

The research will use mixed methods to study experiences within one institution and develop insights applicable to other institutions and funding agencies. Responsibilities include defining and analyzing types of capacity contributing to workforce development, engaging with theories from organizational development and systems engineering, collecting and analyzing data using quantitative and qualitative methods, preparing research reports and publications, presenting findings at conferences, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Engineering Education, STEM Education, Engineering, or a related field by January 1st and must be U.S. citizens. Strong skills in research methods, data analysis, and communication are required. The position start date is negotiable, with a preferred start date no later than June 1, 2026.

Funding is available, with salary determined by experience, education, and discipline. Application materials include a CV, cover letter, and names of 2-3 recommenders, to be submitted online. The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

For more information, contact Professor Alexandra Coso Strong at [email protected]. Cornell University values diversity and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
