About this position

The Gao Lab in the Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University is recruiting two PhD students to start in Fall 2026. The research focuses on two main areas: (1) designing and synthesizing nanomaterials for agricultural applications, including nutrient delivery to crops and studying their behavior in plants using advanced analytical techniques; and (2) developing machine learning-based methods to analyze the fate and risks of emerging contaminants in agricultural soil and water systems. Applicants should have a background in Environmental Chemistry/Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical & Biological Engineering, or related fields.

A Master’s degree is preferred, but exceptional Bachelor’s graduates will be considered. A minimum GPA of 3.5 in core courses is required, and international applicants must meet English proficiency requirements (TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.5). Strong scientific writing and communication skills are essential.
