A fully funded PhD scholarship is available through the Walsh Scholars Programme at Teagasc, in partnership with University College Dublin, commencing September 2026. The research project focuses on Farmer Health & Service Delivery (SAFES), specifically examining spatial and cultural factors that influence farmer health engagement in Ireland. The project will integrate spatial analysis of secondary data, national surveys, interviews, mixed-methods analysis, and stakeholder-led framework development to support advisory and policy frameworks for the agricultural sector.

The successful candidate will participate in a four-year structured doctoral programme, based at Teagasc Ashtown Research Centre in Dublin 15. The programme offers a €25,000 annual stipend, university fees covered up to €6,000 per annum, and opportunities for international research placements. The research will be supervised by Catherine Blake and is designed to provide comprehensive training in both research and professional development, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches combining agriculture, public health, and policy analysis.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in agriculture, public health, social sciences, or a related field. Experience with spatial analysis, mixed-methods research, or policy frameworks is desirable.
