About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity in International Relations and Political Science at the Geneva Graduate Institute for the SNSF-funded project “Knowledge Production, Networks, and Power in Global Education Governance: The Politics of Expertise in UNESCO, OECD, and the World Bank.”

The doctoral researcher will join a collaborative team led by Professor Chanwoong Baek and contribute to a mixed-methods project combining social network analysis and network-cued interviews. The research examines how international organizations produce and mobilize expert knowledge in global education governance, how networks of expertise are structured, and how organizational practices shape the production and circulation of knowledge.

This is a 4-year fully funded doctoral position (September 2026–August 2030) with salary and welfare benefits in line with the SNSF range for doctoral researchers. The role also includes opportunities for international and European conferences, workshops, and research travel.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in political science, international relations, comparative and international education, education policy, or a related social science discipline. The post seeks candidates with strong research and analytical skills, interest in the politics of expertise and international organizations, and preferably experience with mixed methods and/or social network analysis.

Application deadline: May 4, 2026. Apply through the Geneva Graduate Institute job portal with a motivation letter, short research proposal (max. 1,000 words) connected to the SNSF project, CV, transcripts and degree diplomas, writing sample, two reference letters or referee names, and an English language certificate.
