Funding

Three fully funded studentships are available, each covering 3.5 years of full-time study (or part-time equivalent), including tuition fees and a stipend at the standard UKRI 'home' student rate. International students must pay the difference between home and international fees if awarded. At least one award is reserved for applicants from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.

How to apply

Discuss your proposal with an academic staff member or nominated supervisor in your research area before applying. Submit a formal PhD application, a detailed doctoral thesis proposal (1,500–2,000 words), and supporting documents including references, transcripts, CV, and proof of English proficiency if needed. Apply by 5pm on 9 February 2026 via the university portal.

Requirements

Applicants must have a first or upper second-class undergraduate degree and a distinction in a relevant master's degree from a UK or recognized international university, or demonstrate equivalent qualifications and experience. Non-traditional qualifications are considered with evidence of significant contributions in the field. Applicants cannot be current doctoral students. English language proficiency is required if relevant. Applications are open to both UK and international students, and the university encourages applications from underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
